DAY 1 - 9:00am - 4:00pm
Colonial Philadelphia Tour
Enjoy an informative overview of Philadelphia, the “Birthplace of America.” This private, guided city tour will take place on two historic trolleys.
Thursday morning you will start out by exploring the various neighborhoods of Philadelphia. The trolley provides a birds-eye view of the narrow streets and beautiful architecture that make Philadelphia so charming.
You’ll drive down “cultural” Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which boasts some of the country’s most well-known museums; The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Rodin Museum and The Benjamin Franklin Science Institute. And your group will have the opportunity to run up our most famous set of steps, the “Rocky steps,” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Get those cameras ready as you enjoy the spectacular view of our city from the top. Have your picture taken next to the Rocky statue!
You will continue on throughout the city, driving down the Avenue of the Arts, Antique Row, South Street, along the waterfront, then ending in the historic area.
Before you begin your walking exploration of “America’s most historic square mile” on Independence National Historical Park, guests will enjoy a three-course lunch at City Tavern Restaurant.
After lunch, you will have the opportunity to view some of the most famous symbols of our nation’s freedom by foot, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written. In addition, you will take a walk down Elfreth’s Alley, the oldest continuously occupied residential street in the country, and you will drive by the Betsy Ross House. And we can’t forget about Philadelphia’s most famous son, Benjamin Franklin. You will walk through Franklin’s Print Shop, and stand on the ground where his house once stood. You will also visit Christ Church and have the opportunity to visit the graves of Mr. & Mrs. Franklin.
And before leaving the historic area, you will visit the National Constitution Center. The NCC is the country’s first ever interactive museum dedicated to telling the story of the Constitution. You will watch a presentation of “Freedom Rising,” a 22-minute show with a live actor, and then you can have some free time to explore the numerous interactive exhibits.
